Month of Love
Attending my first-ever book club meeting was a leap outside my comfort zone, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding decisions I've ever made. The book we discussed, Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, was the perfect choice for February—a month that celebrates love in all its messy, imperfect glory.
This hilariously offbeat collection of 18 short stories taught me so much about love, relationships, and self-acceptance. Each story delves into unique situations, often with a twist of the absurd or a thought-provoking premise. While the stories are diverse, they all share a central thread of exploring the complexity of human connection, and the long search for love and acceptance, even when we feel "damaged." It reminded me that love isn't just about the perfect moments but about embracing flaws, quirks, and the unexpected.
The best part is the sci-fi aspects, also at one point my pov was a dog?!! Beyond the beautiful book itself, the experience of meeting new people was transformative. Nervously walking into a room of strangers, I never imagined I'd walk out with the beginnings of friendships that would last a lifetime. It was incredible to connect with people who not only shared a love of literature but also brought their own unique perspectives to the conversation.
Looking back, I'm so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone and said yes to that first agenda, since then I've never missed a meeting. It wasn't just about reading a book; it was about finding a community, celebrating human connections, share my thoughts, and discovering more about myself.
