Woven Together With Stories
I never really would have thought about seeing books as my best friends; although they always have been in a way. A 23 year old me however, would be surprised to find herself in a book club after a long slump of not reading. Especially through a hectic couple of months in a job and leaving after my contract ended.
It was my first time at the Supper Book-Cult, I was invited by Damar. It didn't take a bunch of convincing from him since he told me it was themed towards Japanese literature. I also haven't seen him in a while so I took it upon myself to see this as a good way to reconnect with a friend. Which would've been great, had he come from the beginning of the event, but alas, work calls and he was only able to join in a later part of the day.
After an ice-breaker and people finding out that Elin and I were the biggest Japanese culture fans (see: weeaboo), we were grouped together based on the character we had picked out when we first arrived at the event. I chose Luna from Sailor Moon because of how stubborn she can get. Also I just love cats.
Everyone at my table had a book that I had somewhat touched in my life at one point. Hamudt brought Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, a book that I cherished a lot during my teen years (I mentioned it in my Desert Island Disk; if you ever find that online). Elin brought Death Note, one of the first mangas I checked out in the school I went to back in Malaysia.
